Who Is God?

Posted on: November 21, 2011

God wants us to know who He is.  He wants us to know His attributes, His character.  The more I learn about God, the hungrier I am to read His Word.  It never ceases to amaze me how He reveals something to me I never saw before (when I’ve read the same verse numerous times through the years).  I get so inspired when this happens!  I pray the Lord will reveal things to you today that you haven’t noticed before.

The Bible tells us everything we need to know about God.  It is difficult for our limited minds to fully grasp all the He is.  Scripture tells us that one day it will be made perfectly clear (1 Cor. 13:12), but until then, we use His Word to get to know Him.  It’s been said,

“If God were small enough for your minds, He wouldn’t be big enough for your needs.”

So for that reason, don’t be disgruntled if you can’t fully understand who He is and why God does certain things.  I encourage you to look up and underline the following verses in your own Bible.

  • God is Faithful.  “…He is God, the faithful God…” (Deut. 7:9)
  • God is Unchanging.  “He is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Heb. 13:8)
  • God is Love.  “…for God is Love.” (1 Jn. 4:8)
  • God is Omniscient (all knowing).  God knows everything. “And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.” (Matt. 10:30)
  • God is Omnipresence (present everywhere). “Nothing in all creation can hide from Him…”. (Heb. 4:13)
  • God is Omnipotent (all powerful). “…what is impossible from a human perspective is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)
  • God is Truth and Eternal.  “…the Lord is the true God…the everlasting King…” (Jer. 10:10)
  • God is Gracious and Merciful.  “The Lord is merciful and gracious…” (Ps. 103:8)
  • God is Wise.  “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth…” (Prov. 3:19)
  • God is Infinite.  “I am the Alpha and Omega…” (Rev. 22:13)
  • God is Righteous and Just.  “…for all His ways are just…righteous and upright is He.” (Deut. 32:4)
  • God is Spirit.  “For God is spirit…” (Jn. 4:24)

Of course, there are many more wonderful attributes of God.  In my first year of recovery, one of the most comforting of these was that I could trust God.  I was so untrusting of people, I couldn’t even trust myself!  But I know I can trust in Him.  He doesn’t change, EVER.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  I just love that about Him, don’t you?

A little about name is Michele and I am a born-again Christian. I was saved as a teenager and graduated from a Christian high school. I am a mother of one son who is the world to me. Despite my upbringing, later in life I fell into a life of self destruction which led me down many dark paths. I am a recovering addict and alcoholic and I have a great passion for Christ and His amazing power to heal even the worst cases. I am living proof of the miracle of God's power to change your life and way of thinking. Nothing is impossible with God.
